Medical Innovation Xchange (MIX) Welcomes NERvTechnology, the Newest MIXResident Company

NERv aims to create a paradigm shift in post-operative care, by providing healthcare providers with a smart monitoring tool that can enhance the delivery of care. NERv’s technology is being built with the goal of decreasing surgeon’s response time to potential complications, making patient recovery easier, and hopefully saving lives.

Kitchener, ON, Canada, April 12, 2021– Medical Innovation Xchange (MIX) is excited to welcome NERv Technology as its newest Resident Company. NERv joins MIX as the sixth Resident company and will be an incredible partner, collaborator and contributor to the local and domestic MedTech ecosystem.

“NERv is excited to be calling MIX its new home. NERv has been a proud network partner for MIX since MIX’s inception. We look forward to working more closely with the MIX tenants and network partners to strengthen MIX’s vision of establishing the Kitchener-Waterloo region as a leader in MedTech innovation. There is a wealth of talent and innovation being created in the K-W community and we are excited to see this community grow further.” – Youssef Helwa

NERv joins MIX during the pandemic, however, sees incredible value in co-locating with other local MedTech companies who are experiencing similar barriers and challenges and are in a similar phase of growth. NERv is disrupting the post-operative care space, with a smart catheter solution that detects complications such as leaks, bleeding and infection during recovery, which often can take 2-3 days to detect. With the NERv solution, complications can be identified much earlier, helping to reduce length of stay for patients, issues due to complications and further surgical intervention.

NERv was co-founded in 2014 by CEO Youssef Helwa and COO Amr Abdelgawad, both University of Waterloo engineering graduates, and the company has grown to employ 18 people locally. They will be taking advantage of a brand-new lab space at MIX as well as the collaboration and networking space available to all MIX Resident Companies.

“I am excited to welcome NERv to their new space and into the MIX Resident Company family. Welcoming a new Resident company during the pandemic has presented unique challenges, however it also demonstrates the resilience, determination and importance of domestic MedTech innovators. I am looking forward to supporting MIX in the next phase of their growth and seeing how NERv will be a great contributor to the ecosystem.”  Elliot Fung, Executive Director, MIX

MIX was founded in 2019 and officially opened its doors in 2020 where it offers Canadian MedTech companies an environment to grow locally and go to market globally.

“I am thrilled to officially welcome NERv as MIX’s newest Resident Company. As a successful domestic start-up looking to commercialize globally while staying rooted in Kitchener-Waterloo, NERv is perfectly aligned with MIX’s growing roster of existing Residents. We are so excited to have them join us to make our domestic MedTech sector even stronger.” Armen Bakirtzian, MIX Founder and CEO and Co-Founder of Intellijoint Surgical
